Newcastle United youngster Leo Shahar has secured a season-long loan deal to the Portuguese top flight.
Full-back Shahar makes the switch from the fringes of the Magpies’ first-team squad to FC Arouca, who currently sit third in the Primeira Liga table.
The 19-year-old made his first-team debut for the Magpies earlier this year, appearing as a second-half substitute in February’s UEFA Champions League victory over Qarabağ FK at St. James’ Park.
A statement confirming the news from NUFC read: “Everybody at Newcastle United wishes Leo the very best of luck for the season ahead.”
The deal comes after the Magpies officially confirmed a signing of Guinea midfielder Ousmane Diabate from Turkish Super Lig side Genclerbirligi.
Having been leaked as a new signing by the Premier League when they released their squad lists, the 18-year-old returns to his former club on loan for the 2026/27 season.
Last season Diabate made his senior international debut for Guinea, featuring in a friendly against Northern Ireland at Windsor Park in June.
