Matthias Jaissle has hinted he could throw Nico Gonzalez straight into his Newcastle United XI.
The head coach has shown he’s not afraid to turn to a player straight through the door, having handed Amar Dedic his debut v Liverpool just days after putting pen to paper from Benfica.
It could be something similar with former Man City man Gonzalez. The ink barely dry on his £50million deal, and within hours, the Magpies are off to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium to renew acquaintances with Sandro Tonali.
Is it a gamble throwing him in so soon? Jaissle has hinted it may be Gonzalez who fronts up to the Italian in London on Saturday.
“He trained with us and he looked sharp. He’s an option,” said Jaissle, who has got off to an unbeaten start in the dugout.
“He is a smart player, he has huge potential, and already he brings huge quality to the squad.”
While Spurs got off to a tough Premier League start last week against Brentford, Jaissle is not underestimating the task ahead. He does, however, want to make sure the home team have plenty to consider from his side, too.
Jaissle said: “We will be facing a top team. It is a difficult change.
“We will not change our approach. We are facing a really strong opponent. With our playing style, we can cause any opponents problems.”
