Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has revealed an injury concern after the Carabao Cup win over Millwall.
Full-back Amar Dedic was taken off at half-time in the 1-0 win. He was replaced by Tino Livramento.
And while Jaissle admits the withdrawal of the £30million Bosnian international was to protect the player, he hopes Dedic will be OK, having felt his hamstring - especially given how important he is to the system.
“Amar fell a little bit on his hamstring, so we didn’t want to take any risk, but it was also planned that Tino gets a bit more minutes than last time,” said the head coach, who has now gone five games unbeaten at the start of his NUFC reign.
‘They don’t lie’
Jaissle stressed just how important Dedic and Lewis Hall - United’s man-of-the-match at The Den - are to the way he wants to play. That’s something underlined by the fact they have five assists between them this campaign.
He continued: “Really important, as you saw also in the statistics, they don’t lie, so we involve them heavily in possession, usually to be also dominant in the final third, and we have that quality on both sides, so I’m really pleased to see these performances.”
Results is all that matters - Jaissle
Even the happiest of clappers would admit things were far from pretty at Millwall. And while results have been brilliant, performances are not quite matching up. Jaissle isn’t concerned.
He said: “Yeah, it's positive definitely if you have results, because in the end it's about results, and if you face such a transition period with so many changes and so many challenges, then I think everyone would have signed that start. There's improvement and potential to improve, this is also clear, this is normal in football, and especially in such an early stage. But again, there could have been much more challenges already, and the ones we had we faced really good.”
