Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has penned a new five-year deal at St James’ Park, pending official announcement.
Inside NUFC revealed earlier this week that the England defender had agreed the new contract, which was then with club legals to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. And we’ve now had it confirmed the deal is done. It will keep the player, theoretically, with the Magpies until 2031, which adds two years to the terms of his last contract.
The deal is said to reward the player for his rapid development and increased standing within the group, bringing him closer to parity with the higher earners in the United squad.
And while head coach Matthias Jaissle would not confirm nor deny the new deal in his pre-Leeds United press conference, he spoke from the heart about his love for the work he’s seen from Hall, who turned 22 on Tuesday, so far this season.
“Yeah, without speaking about his contract, I can just say that I’m in love with what I saw so far from him,” said Jaissle, whose side travel to Elland Road on Monday night.
“It’s an amazing player with huge potential still, and this makes me so happy to hopefully have him here for the next years, in the long term, as he’s fitting so good to this identity, how we want to play football, and again, he’s doing an excellent job.”
