It’s back! Well, the press conference, not quite Premier League football, anyway. With Coventry just around the corner - on Monday night - here’s everything Matthias Jaissle said ahead of the encounter.
NUFC injury update - three or four back
So, tomorrow we we’re fully back and due to the injury situation, I think you already get the the updates. Um yeah, we are in general we’re pleased, just Ewan (Jaouen) was was a difficult one of the hamstring he will be out for a couple of months but the rest should be should be okay.
We hope that three four players are are ready to be in the squad.
Joe you seen. Others are coming back definitely and this is helpful for sure but we need to be smart as well in the load management. They have the potential to be in the squad but for sure not in the starting 11.
Return to Premier League action
Yeah, I’m actually happy that on Monday evening the referee is whistling again and we can show emotions. We can show hopefully as well a good performance on the pitch. It was a little bit unusual, the long break, probably for you too. I hope you were not bored too much but yeah now we’re all happy that we start again.
Threat of Coventry 'momentum’ & Frank Lampard
As you know, every team is capable to win against every opponent. So now Coventry, they have the momentum, they won their last match. They have the confidence. They have also the quality, clear playing style but also we are aware of what we need to win that match. This is something I always mentioned if we bring our performance on the pitch, if we perform on our best then it’s going to be difficult to beat us.
When I was a player, he (Frank Lampard) was one of the players you you’re looking up to. Um, and now as a manager, he’s doing a great job. I mentioned that already. You see a clear identity. You see clear way how they want to play football. And it will be tough on Monday, especially when they play at home.
Man City scandal - what does it mean to NUFC?
I think as a manager of another club, I’m not able to judge and it’s not my my job, especially it’s not in my job description to judge on that.
There are authorities taking care of it. I think there’s a clear process now, um which we’ve followed and for us I’m speaking on behalf of the whole club. It’s the right approach to focus on what we can influence.
On NUFC not breaking Premier League rules
This is something I felt in summer. This is something I felt in summer that we really taking in serious.
Joelinton position - and strengths
Yeah, I mean you, you know him as well, quite good. You saw him many times live. Uh, he’s just communicative. He is a leader, his body language shows that and, uh, you need also warriors in the team and therefore we’re really happy to have him back.
You see him with us as a midfielder, but he’s also versatile and this is something I really appreciate with players. It’s not only Joe. There are many more players in our squad who can play multiple positions and that helps the team. That helps the, the coach, because then you’re also less predictable.
What to expect post-international break - improvement?
Yeah, of course we want to improve. We want to develop, as I mentioned. But it’s never easy because you have not the chance to work with the players in these three weeks. They are spread around the world. They played in different playing styles for their national teams. They are coaches there with the national teams demand maybe different things than we do. So now it’s time, from tomorrow onwards, when everyone is back on the training ground to make them aligned, to make sure that everyone thinks in place in the same direction, and then I’m confident that that we can develop in the right way.
Nick Pope - what’s his situation?
Yeah, I can only think and say positive words about Nick. He knows about his role and he reacted really professional. Off the pitch, of course due to his experience, he’s also a leader. We’re all happy that he’s with us.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo - position and strengths
We should not just see and and describe (him) as a player who presses the opposition at maximum speed, also in possession and he’s running a lot of times behind. He has also different elements what we can use even as a linkup player. So he’s doing a brilliant there. He’s technically gifted.
He can play on the wing, so difficult to catch.
I’m 100% sure that he will have a bright future with us.
It’s a young lad, a really young lad. This is part of the brave way and the brave journey we’re taking here.
He came really late with almost no pre-season. Now he was three weeks with the national team but didn’t play much, didn’t train much. So, we need to give him time. We need to be patient with him. We support him and then you will see that we will get many, many great performances back.
NUFC formation flexibility
Often we start out of the 4231. So you play with three midfielders. Um again if the six tend to be slightly higher like we had the approach in the last match then you have two eights.
So don’t make it as fixed as you may think. So it’s slightly differences you know if he’s 5m higher again then we’re talking about the eight. If he’s then again 5m higher you’re talking maybe about the 10. If it’s 5m higher, then you’re talking about two strikers.
So, let’s keep it flexible and we want to bring the players in the best possible position where they can shine, but also where they can help the team. Just on that, you’re saying that we start with that 4231.
